Reds keen to add yet more firepower to their forward line this month.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is considering making a shock move for West Bromwich Albion front man Shane Long before the January transfer window closes at the end of this month.
The Republic of Ireland international, currently out of the Baggies starting line-up through injury, has had an impressive first half of the season for Steve Clarke’s men, scoring five Premier League goals, as well as assisting in many others.
And, it is this form in front of goal that has brought the 25-year-old to the attention of the Reds head coach, who knows the centre forward well from when the pair worked together at Reading.
The one major stumbling block, however, to a successful deal being completed is West Brom’s insistence in valuing the player at £12.5 million, a figure that the Merseysiders are currently baulking at.
West Brom bought the forward from Reading for just £6.3m in Aug 2011 and as such want to see a good return on their original investment, plus Clarke and Co have no great need to sell Long in this window, although if the Irishman decides to push for a dream move to Anfield, then it is believed that the Midlands outfit will not stand in his way.
