Liverpool’s assistant manager Colin Pascoe has promised fans that Spanish summer signings Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto will eventually come good, the club’s official website reports.
They cost the Reds £15m between them, but have barely figured at all. Neither have scored, and Aspas has failed to impress anyone in his five starts, while Alberto hasn’t even been given one.
“The more they get used to the Premier League, the better they’ll get,” Pascoe promised.
“Like any player – a British player or a foreign player – you hope they gel together. Sometimes you do gel quickly, sometimes you do need time to adapt to the Premier League.”
Pascoe reckons Aspas will improve now he’s full fit, and with Daniel Sturridge still out injured, Liverpool are desperate for a decent backup option for Luiz Suarez.
“Iago started the season well and obviously had his injury. He has been working hard; he has to wait his turn like all the strikers do. He did well the other day and, with the way he is training, he is getting better,” Pascoe continued.
Aspas and Alberto are both expected to start against Oldham in the FA Cup on Sunday evening, but are unlikely to be given many more chances this term unless they start paying back some of their considerable transfer fees shortly.
