Liverpool and England midfielder Jordan Henderson is set to be awarded a new contract at Anfield following his excellent performances this season, the Daily Mail reports.
The 23-year-old has blossomed this term for the Reds, finally justifying the £16m transfer fee that brought him to the club back in 2011 from Sunderland.
Henderson’s played every minute of every game in the Premier League, and assisted six goals. Only Luis Suarez, Mesut Ozil, Wayne Rooney and David Silva have created more chances for teammates.
The Englishman’s form has helped propel the Reds into fourth spot in the table, two points above Merseyside rivals Everton in the race for the Champions League places.
His contract still has two-and-a-half years to run, but Brendan Rodgers wants to reward him and tie him down to the club for the foreseeable future.
Liverpool take on Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime, and Henderson will need to be at his combative best to stop the league leaders from leaving Anfield with three points.
