Reds boss Rodgers is mightily impressed with his on form striker…
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has praised the on-form Daniel Sturridge, and reckons he has all the attributes to be one of the best Premier League strikers, he told Liverpool’s official website.
The 23-year-old striker has played a vital role in helping Liverpool win both of their Premier League matches so far – grabbing winners at home to Stoke and away to Aston Villa.
“Daniel is a player who I believe when he’s fit and playing that he’s one of the top strikers in the Premier League,” said his Northern Irish boss.
Since his January arrival, Sturridge has been fantastic for Liverpool, scoring twelve times in just 16 league appearances, earning himself a place back in the England squad.
“He’s got all the attributes – he’s super quick, got a wonderful touch, great movement and you his finish and composure with the goal he scored,” added Rodgers.
Sturridge has been extra important to Liverpool ever since star player Luis Suarez was banned for ten matches for biting Branislav Ivanovic towards the end of last term – but the former Chelsea forward has stepped straight into his boots.
“He just needed an opportunity,” continued Rodgers.
“I’d seen enough of him. He’s a young player who’s had a couple of difficult moves but it’s just about providing him with the opportunity and he’s really grown into the club since arriving in January.
“His goals-to-game ratio is terrific so far and he just needs to keep working and keep his focus and he’ll do very well, I’m sure.”
Liverpool take on Notts County in the League Cup on Tuesday, but Sturridge will probably be rested ahead of the mouthwatering tie against Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.
