Reds midfielder set to return to Bundesliga.
Borussia Dortmund are closing in on a deal to re-sign Liverpool loan flop Nuri Sahin, according to reports.
Newcastle v Liverpool tickets are still on sale for the big clash at St James’. Pick one up now!
The Turkish midfielder is midway through a season-long spell at Anfield but has not featured for Brendan Rodgers’ side in the Premier League since starting against Chelsea on 11 November.
After opting to join Liverpool rather than Arsenal in the summer, Sahin made a strong start to life in the Premier League but has badly faded and Rodgers was reportedly considering sending the 24-year-old back to the Spanish capital this month.
An ignominious return to the Bernebue may not be necessary for Sahin, however, after Daily Mail writer Matt Fortune revealed on twitter that sources in Germany expect the player to return to Borussia Dortmund by Friday evening.
The Turkey international spent six years with the German giants, helping them to a Bundesliga title in 2010/11 and being voted the league’s Player of the Year in the process.
His form earned him a move to Real in the summer of 2011 but he never settled in La Liga, making just four appearances in the whole of last season.
Liverpool are reportedly paying a hefty chunk of Sahin’s £110,000 per week wages and Rodgers will be relieved to get the loan flop off the wage bill, with more new signings a distinct possibility this month.
