Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has taken a sly dig at former boss Jose Mourinho, who he believes plays a relatively stale brand of football with Chelsea, the Independent reports.
Rodgers use to work at Chelsea as a youth coach under the enigmatic Portuguese, but now sees his Liverpool side engulfed in a title race with the West London giants, after both teams picked up important wins at the weekend.
While Liverpool played in a thrilling 4-3 win over Swansea at Anfield, that made them the Premier League’s highest scorers this season, Chelsea snatched a late 1-0 win over Everton, in what was a fairly drab affair.
On asked whether he believed his side should become more solid defensively, like Chelsea, Rodgers was adamant that his team would maintain its attacking instincts.
“I think it’s not our style,” said the Northern Irishman.
“I worry always to play good football. I’m not one who is totally satisfied to always just grind out results,” he added.
Liverpool sit four points behind top placed Chelsea, but will face the Blues at Anfield towards the end of April, in what could be a title decider.
Rodgers though, is only thinking of the quality of his side’s performances…
“For us I will always concentrate on performance because I think that the consequence of performing well consistently is getting results – and this season we’ve shown that. We’ve shown that when we play well we get the win.”
