On loan Getafe man could provide huge boost to Anfield squad.

Liverpool are believed to be monitoring Spanish winger Pedro Leon, who has been in wonderful form for Getafe this season.

Getafe are riding high in seventh in La Liga, just two points off the UEFA Champions League places, and are exceeding expectations of a club of their size and budget.

Real Madrid star Pedro Leon – on loan at Getafe for the last two seasons – has been a key factor in their impressive results, and has been arguably one of the best players in Spain this season behind the rather obvious likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Radamel Falcao.

26 year-old Pedro Leon is a skilful player on the ball, a fine passer and crosser, and a goal threat himself.

He also works very hard on the defensive side of his game, meaning that he would fit in well to the Brendan Rodgers philosophy of pressing to win the ball back as soon as possible when possession is lost.

He has scored twice and provided five assists in La Liga this season, and Liverpool would see him as a significant upgrade on Stewart Downing.

Downing famously did not score or assist a Liverpool player in the Premier League last season, and Brendan Rodgers has openly questioned his commitment this campaign.

Perhaps he might be more impressed with Pedro Leon, though he will be aware that Getafe have first option to sign the player permanently.

Liverpool’s likely larger budget though would mean that they still stand a good chance of signing him in the summer, and a front line of Luis Suarez, Raheem Sterling and Pedro Leon would be quite formidable.
