Anfield club on red alter as Lyon forward confirms he will decide his future next month.

Bafetimbi Gomis has admitted there is set to be a firm decision on his future in January as he will either leave Lyon or sign a new deal with the French club.

Reports have suggested that Gomis is attracting interest from England, with Chelsea in pole position and said to be already in talks with Lyon.

Liverpool have also been linked with a move for the striker as Brendan Rodgers seeks some attacking support for Luis Suarez.

Gomis believes there will be developments early in 2013, indicating that he could be moved on if he does not pen a new deal.

Lyon owner Aulas has confirmed the club will sell three top players in the next two transfer windows, leading to speculation about Lyon’s star players. The club are in a financially precarious state and despite selling Hugo Lloris, Aly Cissokho and Kim Källström to Tottenham, Valencia and Spartak Moscow respectively over the summer.

Liverpool are in desperate need of striking reinforcements and will almost certainly move for a forward in the new year.

Even before Fabio Borini was sidelined with a fractured foot, the Merseysiders lack of firepower was evident and the Italian’s injury had left Luis Suarez as the only fit, senior striker at Anfield.

If Brendan Rodgers is truly interested in Gomis, the North Irishman will be hoping the board sanction a bid that is sufficient to turn Lyon’s head.

The  powerful 27-year-old impressed many during his time at Saint-Etienne, scoring 45 goals in his last three seasons at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard before making the joining Lyon for £11m.

The France international netted a solid 29 goals in his first two seasons for the club outfit but upped his game last term to produce a career best of 25 goals in all competitions for Remi Garde’s side.

Gomis has scored 13 goals in 19 games thus far this season and could feel that January is the opportune time to consider a move away from the French top tier.
