Sevilla forward set to have medical at Liverpool’s Melwood training ground today.
Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Spanish starlet Luis Alberto, who is expected to arrive on Merseyside for a medical today.
The Daily Mirror report that the Sevilla CF man will cost the Reds £6 million up front, with up to a further £800,000 to follow dependent on performance.
Luis Alberto is a versatile player, capable of playing in attacking midfield, up front and on the left wing.
Last season on loan at FC Barcelona B he typically cut inside from the left flank, but the common consensus at Sevilla is that he is best suited to a false nine role, dropping deep from the striker position to allow others to make runs beyond him.
He has great vision and technique, assisting eighteen times in the second tier of Spanish football for Barcelona B last season to complement his 11 goals.
Although still raw at 20 years of age, and prone to sometimes making the wrong decision, Luis Alberto has youth on his side and could certainly grow in this Liverpool side – particularly with Brendan Rodgers as manager, as the Northern Irishman is keen to cement a passing philosophy in his team.
Luis Alberto will battle with Daniel Sturridge, Fabio Borini, Raheem Sterling, Philippe Coutinho, Stewart Downing and Suso for a position in the front three at Liverpool – as well as Luis Suarez should he stay at Anfield.
