Mauro Zarate’s agent gives Claudio Lotito five days to lower player’s transfer fee.
The agent of former Birmingham City striker Mauro Zarate has declared war on his club Lazio’s President, Claudio Lotito, according to Sky Sports.
The Argentinian striker has demanded a move away but is said to be furious after the club’s hierarchy set their demands at around £5 million.
The player’s agent, Luis Ruzzi, is quoted as saying ‘I have toured Europe and there are no clubs interested in paying that kind of fee which Lotito is asking for. Now the war begins. We will not accept a loan because we have no intention of returning to Lazio.”
Liverpool and Stoke are monitoring the situation closely with both clubs ready to swoop should the player become available at a reduced price.
Zarate impressed many during his brief spell in the Premier League, putting in a number of good performances despite being unable to help Birmingham stave off relegation.
Liverpool are keen to continue supplementing their forward options after having sealed the signature of Daniel Sturridge and see Zarate, who can play up front or on the wing, as someone who could bring something new to the squad.
They face competition from Stoke however who are amongst the league’s lowest scorers having hit the back of the net just 21 times this season.
