French club regard White Hart Lane defender as alternative to Chelsea’s Cole.
Ligue 1 leaders PSG are lining-up a bid for Tottenham Hotspur full-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto, fanatix has learnt.
The Qatari-owned outfit have been linked with a move for Chelsea’s Ashley Cole but fear the England international will join Manchester United or Real Madrid next summer, so have turned their attentions to the Cameroon international.
Assou-Ekotto has spent the majority of the current campaign on the sidelines with a knee injury and has not started a Premier League game for Spurs since the 1-1 home draw with Norwich in September.
Despite being fit for over a month, the 27-year-old’s only appearances has come in the FA Cup win over Coventry and, in his absence, first Jan Vertonghen and lately Kyle Naughton have filled in at left-back.
Naughton again started in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at QPR, with Assou-Ekotto among the subs, and the former Sheffield United defender is expected to keep his place for next weekend’s big clash with Man United at White Hart Lane
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas does not want to sell Assou-Ekotto this month but chairman Daniel Levy might be tempted to cash in on the former Lens man, particularly if big-spending PSG offer a significant amount for the player.
The Parisiens already boast former Barcelona star Maxwell at left-back and the Brazilian is enjoying a fine season for the Ligue 1 leaders.
But Maxwell is 32 this year and the French club regard Assou-Ekotto as the perfect replacement for the ageing Selecao star.
