Former Cavs star enjoys positive return on Wednesday night.
Miami Heat star LeBron James conceded that he was flattered by the ‘Come Home LeBron’ campaign from the Cleveland Cavaliers fans.
Since his admission that he would perhaps consider a return to Cleveland in the future if the circumstances worked out, the fans have changed their opinion somewhat and have received him well on return trips back to the Quicken Loans Arena.
A group of fans have gone as far as raising $50,000 to put up billboards and passed out several thousand “Come Home LeBron” t-shirts on Wednesday night, as the Miami Heat visited and came away with a 95-84 win.
While the t-shirts got LeBron’s attention, he refused to discuss his future as he looks ahead to the potential of testing free agency next summer.
“It’s very flattering,” he told reporters, according to ESPN.
“Anytime you have fans who appreciate the way you play, it’s humbling.”
However, the two-time NBA champion refused to go as far as discussing his future, with speculation increasing that if he were to decide to leave Miami, then a return to his former club would be the priority.
“I’m not talking about free agency right now. My only concern is winning a third championship.”
James tends to spend some of his offseason in his native Akron, and although he is grateful that the perception of him has changed since leaving in 2010, the situation doesn’t overly concern him.
Nevertheless, when offered a t-shirt with the slogan and his face emblazoned on it, he declined to accept it as he maintains his focus is on helping the Heat achieve a ‘three-peat’.
