AC Milan arrive in the Italian capital deep in crisis both on and off the pitch, and while Lazio have their own issues they will be looking to pile further misery on their visitors.
While the Biancocelesti supporters are engaged in their own war with president Claudio Lotito, they will be confident of taking advantage of Clarence Seedorf’s recent problems with reports suggesting the Dutchman has two games to save his job.
Having only been drafted in earlier this year to replace Massimiliano Allegri, owner Silvio Berlusconi doesn’t believe he has seen enough from Seedorf to deem him a successful coach, and so the pressure is really on to prove otherwise.
Meanwhile, Adriano Galliani has come under intense criticism too this week over the quality of the squad that has been built at the club over the past few years, and even though changes could come in the summer, it doesn’t help anyone in the more immediate picture as the Rossoneri need a win to boost morale.
Antonio Candreva returns for the hosts from his suspension, but Ederson and Helder Postiga remain long-term absentees.
Christian Abbiati is suspended after his early red card against Parma last weekend, although Mattia De Sciglio returns from his ban. However, Seedorf has additional injury headaches with Riccardo Montolivo and Daniele Bonera said to be doubtful, while Ignazio Abate joins Stephan El Shaarawy in the treatment room.
Reports suggest Mario Balotelli could be dropped to the bench as he continues to come under fire from the ultras, but ultimately whichever team is selected by Seedorf, they must produce a strong performance in order to silence the critics this week at least.
Lazio have won two and drawn one of their last three home games against Milan, and so Seedorf and the Rossoneri must come up with something special to change that record.
