Midfielder definitely leaving in the summer according to agent Steve Kutner.
The agent of England international Frank Lampard, Steve Kutner, has confirmed that the player will not be offered a new contract by his club Chelsea, according to Sky Sports.
The announcement will begin to put an end to months of speculation over the contract saga, which has involved many linked to the club airing their opinions, such as Ray Wilkins advising Manchester United to sign the player and John Terry expressing his dismay that the club could even consider letting a player of Lampard’s calibre go.
Reports over the weekend were suggesting Abramovich was ready to offer Lampard a new deal after fan disgruntlement reached a new high following reports from Italy that Kutner had confirmed Lampard’s summer departure.
But Kutner has been quoted as saying he and Lampard have known for some time that the player’s Chelsea career was coming to an end.
‘Chelsea executives told Frank in Japan during the Club World Cup then again reconfirmed with me after the Everton victory that in no circumstances will he be offered a new contract to stay at the club after the end of the season.’
The stance of the club continues to cause bewilderment in the footballing world with top European sides Inter, Lazio and Manchester United all waiting to swoop should Chelsea stay true to their word.
Lampard equalled Kerry Dixon’s record to become the club’s joint all-time leading scorer with 193 goals.
The player is reportedly willing to take a pay cut, and has been in fine form in recent matches, but the club are remaining resolute in their insistence that no new deal will be offered.
