Pepe Reina wants to stay at Anfield despite reported interest from Barcelona.
Pepe Reina has committed his future to Liverpool and says he would like to sign a new contract at Anfield.
The Spain international has been linked with a return to Barcelona as a replacement for outgoing compatriot Victor Valdes and admitted this week that he would consider an offer from a ‘bigger club’.
The Reds are expected to confirm an £11m deal for Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet in the next few days, leaving Reina’s position as the club’s number one under threat.
But in an interview with Spanish publication El Confidential, the 30-year-old stressed he is happy on Merseyside and wants to extend his contract with the club.
“Replacing Valdes? My idea is to stay at Liverpool. Would even want to add another year to my 2016 contract. The best option for my family is to continue at Liverpool.”
Reina joined Liverpool from Villareal in 2005 and has made over 300 appearances for the club. The Spaniard started his career at the Nou Camp but only managed a handful of appearances for the Catalans before departing.
