Costa Rica forward Joel Campbell signed for Arsenal on August 19, 2011. However, loans to Lorient, Real Betis, Olympiakos and Villarreal delayed the date of his first Premier League start, which came on Saturday, 1,535 days after his original move.
Campbell marked his full Prem debut in style too, scoring Arsenal’s third in a 3-0 win over Swansea City.
Olivier Giroud had earlier broken the deadlock just after half time with a headed effort which was the 2,000th Arsenal goal of Arsene Wenger’s reign.
Giroud was involved in Arsenal’s second of the afternoon, which came courtesy of Laurent Koscielny, who tapped home after his fellow Frenchman had pressured Lukasz Fabianski into a shocking error.
Arsenal’s 3-0 win sees them remain second in the Premier League table, behind leaders Manchester City – who beat Norwich City 2-1 – on goal difference.
