Vertonghen wants his former teammate to join him at White Hart Lane.
Jan Vertonghen has urged Tottenham to sign his former Ajax team-mate Christian Eriksen.
The Danish midfielder is out of contract in 2014 and is being watched by top teams all over Europe.
And Vertonghen reckons the 20-year-old, who scored against England in a friendly last year, would be ideal for the Premier League.
The Belgium defender said: “Technically he’s one of the best players I’ve played with. He’s left and right footed.
“He’s always fit. Since he was 17-18 he’s played every game for Ajax and has never been injured.
“When he gains a little more physical strength he can play in every team.
“I don’t want to talk for him but he’s a good player and I think a good player can play here.”

There’s no doubt that Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas craves another creative central midfield player in his squad.
The Portuguese failed in a bid for Porto’s Joao Moutinho on summer transfer deadline day but it is understood that Porto are unwilling to listen to offers for the 25-year-old Portugal international in January.
Villas-Boas could turn instead to Eriksen, who is likely to leave Amsterdam in January after refusing to discuss a new deal with Ajax. The Eredivisie are keen to cash-in on their prized asset, rather than wait until the summer or next January, when his value will have considerably decreased.
Spurs cannot offer the wages of Manchester City or Chelsea and are by no means guaranteed Champions League football next season, despite currently sitting fourth in the Premier League, but the White Hart Lane outfit have proved able to attract top quality players in recent seasons.
Luka Modric was much like Eriksen – highly rated by unproven in one of Europe’s biggest leagues – before he moved to North London, while Vertonghen himself was wanted by Arsenal but opted for White Hart Lane.
If Eriksen can settle as quickly as his former teammate at Spurs, then the youngster is bound to be a hit but there’s no doubt that Tottenham will face competition for the Denmark international if they move for the 20-year-old in January.
