The last ever ICC Champions Trophy tournament is about to get under way with the best venues across England and Wales hosting the competition.

Eight of the biggest nations in world cricket will battle it out in this one-day knock-out challenge, with joint 2002 winners India taking on 1998 champions South Africa in the first 50-over match in Cardiff on June 6.

Joining those two sides in Group B are Pakistan and the West Indies – who take on each other a day later – whilst Group A is made up of hosts England and three other previous holders of the trophy Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

The Aussies are the most successful side in this tournament’s history having won the previous two events in 2009 and 2006, yet their ICC ODI ranking says they are in fact the third best team in the format.

Currently, according to the organisation India have the finest short-over side whilst the Three Lions are just behind in second – despite having lost their last one-day series to the Black Caps in May/June.

Expect some big hitting, spectacular catches and a real desire from all the teams involved to not only prepare themselves for next year’s World Cup, but also have the prestige of being the last ever victors in the Champions Trophy.
