Quarterback prospect faced lengthy wait before being selected.
Former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel faced an anxious wait for his name to be called out in the first round of the NFL Draft 2014 on Thursday night.
However, the wait is finally over and he knows that he will be playing for the Cleveland Browns next season after they used the 22nd overall pick on the starlet.
The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner had been passed on by the Browns earlier in the round, but they made yet another move in order to grab their man later on.
While Manziel didn’t show too much emotion when taking the call, he undoubtedly perked up when arriving on stage and even flashed the ‘money’ sign to the assembled media and crowd before embracing NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on stage.
The fans in Cleveland were seen to be elated with their new quarterback while Manziel took to Instagram to insist that he couldn’t wait to get to work for his new team as he embarks on a career in the NFL.
Having split opinion like no other prospect in the build up to the draft, it remains to be seen whether or not the reservations that some experts had on him come to reality as he goes through a transitional period to adapt to the league.
Nevertheless, he is undoubtedly excited by the challenge and insisted prior to the draft that the teams that decided to pass on him would live to regret their decision.
Time will tell whether or not ‘Johnny Football’ was right…
