The Gold Coast captain wants Hunt to remain at the club despite his horror injury run.
Gary Ablett says he hopes code-hopper Karmichael Hunt re-signs with the Gold Coast Suns and stays in the AFL.
The 27-year-old has been widely tipped to return or rugby union or rugby league at the end of the season, when his AFL deal with Gold Coast ends.
Hunt has played just one AFL game this season due to injury and illness, but Suns captain Ablett says he would love for Hunt to remain at the club.
“Personally, I haven’t talked to him about that but, of course, I want him to stay at the football club,” Ablett said.
“He’s been fantastic for the younger guys. He’s a super-hard trainer and just sets a good example.
“Hopefully, as it gets towards the end of the year, he re-signs and will stay here for a few years to come.”
Ablett is hoping Hunt can overcome his current knee injury and help Gold Coast’s fight for a finals spot.
“I don’t know how far away he is but, hopefully, he can get himself right and play some footy for us at the end of the year – finish off the season well,” Ablett said.
