They are both considered two of the better sides in the AFL but the Essendon Bombers and Fremantle Dockers approach their clash in the west tonight on very different planes from round three.
Facing their arch-rivals the Carlton Blues, the Dons put on an AFL showcase, pressuring their opponents around the field into making rookie mistakes, almost all of which Mark Thompson’s men made them pay for on their way to a massive win.
The Dockers had a game to forget, as they were made the class clowns by a Hawthorn Hawks teams keen to show why they are the premiers and why they are favorites to win the title again.
Fremantle ruckmen Zac Clarke and Jack Hannath are both available for selection this weekend after both players came under scrutiny for incidents in the WAFL and AFL respectively.
Clarke was reported for rough conduct against Swan Districts’ Ricky Cary in Peel Thunder’s loss on Saturday. He has accepted a reprimand and is free to play against Essendon this Sunday, if selected.
Hannath had a first quarter incident against Hawthorn’s Matt Spangher assessed by the AFL Match Review Panel (MRP), but no action was taken.
The MRP stated that the ball had been kicked into the Fremantle forward line, where Spangher attempts to mark the ball. Hannath attempts to spoil the mark and makes high contact with Spangher. A free kick was paid at the time and it was the view of the panel that the forced used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence.
