The Norwegian recently completed a £4 million transfer to the South Coast and will make his top-flight debut for the Saints against the Premier League leaders United at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
However, a whole host of other Premier League clubs were also interested in signing the highly-rated player, including United’s arch-rivals Liverpool, only for Solskjaer to advise the 24-year-old to turn his back on a move to Anfield and join the relegation strugglers instead.
“I never came close to joining Liverpool because Southampton felt right for me,” Forren told the Daily Mirror.
“There was a lot of interest from the Premier League but after coming here and speaking with the chairman I really felt wanted.
“Ole was very supportive of the move and I spoke with him a lot before coming here. He really wanted me to take this opportunity.”
