Klopp has not forgotten facing Dutchman at the Emirates Stadium.
Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has described Manchester United’s Robin van Persie as the ‘best forward ever’.
Klopp has led the German outfit to successive Bundesliga titles and Cup success last term, transforming Poland’s Robert Lewandowski into one of Europe’s deadliest strikers along the way.
But the 45-year-old has not forgotten facing Robin van Persie – when the Dutchman was still at Arsenal – in the Champions League group stage last season.
Speaking about his experiences of European football, Klopp told Uefa.com: “If I have a share in the success, I also have a great share in the failure at European level. But we have all learned.
“Personally, when we played against Arsenal in London, I saw the best forward ever: Robin van Persie. I didn’t know a player could play three positions during 90 minutes. It was a great experience – and we want to use that now.”
Van Persie scored a fabulous double in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Dortmund in November 2011 to send the Gunners to the last 16 of the Champions League as group winners.
The 29-year-old joined rivals Manchester United for £24m in the summer and has continued his sensational form, leading the Premier League scoring charts with 17 so far this campaign.
