Barca are prepared to use Song as part of a deal to sign Luiz.
Chelsea defender David Luiz looks to be on his way to Barcelona this summer, with the Catalans using former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song to sweeten the deal, according to Spanish daily Marca.
Barca are extremely keen on signing the Brazilian this summer to partner Gerard Pique in central defence, but have been put off by the Blues’ £30m valuation.
The Catalans tried to sign Luiz for £20m last summer, but the west Londoners rejected their offer and negotiations are still ongoing.
The current Spanish champions have identified that Jose Mourinho is looking to recruit in central midfield and attack and have offered up Song as a result – with Alexis Sanchez another alternative.
Neither player has managed to truly settle at the Nou Camp after moves in 2012 and 2011 respectively and both are being linked with moves away as a result.
Song in particular has found it difficult to compete for a place in the starting XI with the Spanish quartet of Sergio Busquets, Cesc Fabregas, Andres Iniesta and Xavi.
In nearly two years in Catalonia the 26-year-old has started just 43 matches in all competitions and as such has been strongly linked with a return to England.
Mourinho knows that Song would be able to cope with the Premier League having spent seven years with the Gunners – although the Cameroon international has previously expressed that his love of the north Londoners would prevent him playing for another English club.
Either way it looks like Luiz’s transfer to Barca is simply a matter of time.
