James and Wade react to visit from ‘Money’ Mayweather.
Boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. has stopped by a Miami Heat practice session to offer some words of advice about defending titles.
The likes of LeBron James and Dwyane Wade will aim to make it a third consecutive title this upcoming season, but with the Eastern Conference becoming more competitive they arguably face their most difficult challenge yet.
Experts have suggested that it will be difficult for Miami to go through all the emotions again and there is a sense that it could be fatigue as opposed to complacency which will be their undoing this year.
However, the two lynch-pins of the side took great heart from Mayweather’s words on the weekend, and believe it was great to listen to the star give them advice.
“With him being 17 years-and-0 — we’re trying to defend two titles — he’s been defending for a long time,” James said according to Pro Basketball Talk.
“He definitely knows where we’re coming from. It’s definitely exciting to have someone, one of the greatest of all time, to be in your presence. It’s something you can talk about years from now when you look back on the history of sports. That guy was at our practice.”
Mayweather has successfully defended his titles 15 times over the course of a career which has seen him establish a 45-0 record in the ring, and he will know a great deal of facing adversity and attempting to silence the doubters.
James will understand the responsibility he has for this team moving forward, and with question marks over the future of this roster considering its free agency status at the end of the season, it may well be the last opportunity they have to win another title together.
