La Viola closing in on German international’s signature.
Fiorentina are firm favourites to sign Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez, according to SkyBet.
The bookmakers price the German at 1/3 to move to the Stadio Artemio Franchi this summer, with the Viola’s Serie A rivals Napoli second favourites at 6/1.
The potential deal will prompt speculation that Arsenal and Juventus target Stevan Jovetic is close to leave the Florence outfit.
Gomez, 27, has struggled to appearances since the arrival of Mario Mandzukic at the Allianz Arena last summer and the German international started just 11 games during this season’s historic treble-winning campaign.
The former Stuttgart striker has managed an impressive 113 goal in 174 appearances since arriving at Bayern in 2009 and his capture would represent a huge coup for Vincenzo Montella’s side.
Fiorentina missed out on Champions League qualification on the final day of the Serie A season but Montella’s young, attacking team has drawn plaudits from across Europe.
Gomez’s possible arrival in Florence will pave the way for Jovetic, 23, to depart.
The Montenegrin striker has admitted he wants to leave the club after scoring 13 league goals last season, with Arsenal and Juve said to leading the chase for the forward.
On Tuesday, Gomez’s agent denied reports his client had already agreed a move to Fiorentina but admitted Gomez would leave Bayern this summer.
“That’s not true,” Uli Ferber is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
But Ferber admitted that Gomez would leave the European Champions and expects the striker to sign for a club where he will be a first team regular.
“It’s not going to be a major assignment (finding a new club),” he said.
“But one thing is for sure – he will only go to a club where he will be a first-choice striker.”
