Selby is hoping to become the first man from Wales to become a world champion since Steve Robinson did it nearly 10 years ago, and many are tipping him to do so as he goes into the fight as the slight favourite.
The 28-year-old is certainly talented enough and has boxing skills that are admired by anyone that has seen him fight previously, but he hasn’t performed at this level before while his opponent is experienced and will be making the fifth defence of his title.
Gradovich is undoubtedly a worthy champion, but he has been criticised for being one-dimensional and predictable, and his opponent can expect him to come forward and fight on Saturday night.
However, he wasn’t named the IBF fighter of the year for no reason, and so he comes with intentions to win and and to silence the home crowd hoping for another British world champion.
In terms of Selby’s chances, the Welshman perhaps hasn’t shown all that he can do in the ring yet, and the step up in class may well bring that out of him as he will need to produce his best performance yet.
He has been nicknamed ‘the Welsh Mayweather’ given his counter-punching style and general silky skills in the ring, and the fact that Gradovich will come forward and attack could suit him.
As a result, it would come as no surprise if a new world champion was crowned on Saturday night, with Selby getting the nod on points after a classy performance which not only proves that he deserves to be at world level, but showcases his ability to do a bit of everything in the ring.
The pair are expected to ring-walk at around 8.00pm UK time.
