Mirallas reveals how the midfielder persuaded his Belgian to come to the Toffees.
In one of the biggest surprises of transfer deadline day Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku agreed to join Everton on loan until the end of the season.
Kevin Mirallas plays with the striker for the Belgium national team and has admitted that once the winger got wind of the possibility, the 25-year-old did everything the attacker could to convince Lukaku to come to Goodison Park.
“I was with Romelu in his room at the team hotel on Monday night, and I only left when I was sure he was joining us,” Mirallas told the Toffees’ website.
“I was surprised to learn we were in for him, because there had been no inkling, but once I got word, I really went to work.”
With Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres all at Stamford Bridge already, it was unlikely the forward would get much playing time staying with the Blues.
It was thought that the 2013/14 campaign would be the season Lukaku finally made a mark in west London, but the Belgian will clearly have to wait a little longer.
Meanwhile, the 20-year-old’s new temporary side will be hoping the striker can emulate the success the player had at West Bromwich Albion last term.
Under the guidance of head coach Steve Clarke, Lukaku netted 17 Premier League goals, which included a hat-trick against Manchester United in Sir Alex Ferguson’s last match in charge of the club.
Big things are expected from the youngster and with a decent league campaign already under the player’s belt, Everton could well reap the rewards.
