Just five days after England’s bowling demolition of New Zealand at Lord’s the two sides meet again in the second and final Test of the series.
Their previous encounter was over in three-and-a-half days when a superb bowling display from Stuart Broad skittled out the Black Caps for just 68 runs in their second innings.
England themselves failed to bat brilliantly in the first five-day match in London and their recently named Player of the Year, Matt Prior, had the indignity of scoring back-to-back ducks.
For the Kiwis Trent Boult looked sharp with ball in hand and seamer Doug Bracewell has been called up to the side, after an injury to Bruce Martin has ruled him out for the rest of the series.
It means all-rounder Kane Williamson will be the only spin option for the Black Caps as veteran Daniel Vettori was not passed fit to play.
There is similar injury concern for the visitors behind the stumps, as BJ Watling has been declared unfit and captain Brendon McCullum will fill in with the gloves.
In the New Zealand batting order Martin Guptill has been drafted in to act as cover for the absent Watling.
As for the Three Lions, they are set to field an unchanged starting XI following their success at Lord’s in a match that saw both Broad and James Anderson take five-fors.
Batsman Ian Bell had been struggling with flu in the first match but has recovered sufficiently to resume his position at No.4 in the order.
