England and India will continue the 4th Test of the five-match series between the sides on day three with the previous day essentially washed out at Old Trafford.
The rain started falling in Manchester at around 14.15 BST with the hosts on 237-6 in reply to the 152 all-out that the Indians had posted in their first innings.
Despite the weather improving later on the ground staff could not drain the outfield sufficiently and play was abandoned to angry boos from the crowd at 17.39 BST.
If the rain lets up on day three the Three Lions are in a good position to assert their authority and build on the good form they showed in the last Test at the Ageas Bowl.
Joe Root is just short of his half-century on 48 and is accompanied at the crease by Jos Buttler, who currently resides on 22.
Things are level at 1-1 in the series currently and the superb bowling effort of James Anderson and Stuart Broad on day one has put the English in a great position to take the lead heading into the final game at the Oval.
