QPR close in on Samba deal.
QPR are on the verge of finalising a £12.5m deal to sign former Blackburn Rovers defender Christopher Samba from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala, according to the BBC.
The R’s triggered a release clause in the centre-half’s contract on Wednesday and Aznhi coach Guus Hiddink confirmed that Samba had flown to London to finalise personal terms and have a medical.
The struggling Hoops will reportedly pay the 28-year-old £100,000 per week.
Samba only joined the mega-rich Russian outfit in February in a £12m deal from Rovers. The Congo international has impressed for Hiddink’s side but has been saddened by the widespread racism in Russian football and wants to return to the UK, where his family still live.
“We have lost centre-back Ryan Nelsen so I need a replacement for him and we have got Chris Samba. He is a massive signing for us,” Hoops boss Harry Redknapp told reporters.
