Liverpool have announced that Martin Skrtel has signed a new three-year deal with the club.
The Slovakian defender had put his Anfield future in doubt by refusing Liverpool’s previous offer.
He branded their appearance-based proposal as “unacceptable” and was insulted by Liverpool’s indication that he was either past his best or had fitness problems.
But now Skrtel, who was entering the final 12 months of his existing contract, has committed himself to the Reds until the summer of 2019 upon returning for pre-season training.
The 30-year-old started 48 matches for the Merseyside outfit in all competitions last season, and has made 293 appearances in total since joining from Zenit St Petersburg in 2008.
