Could David Villa be the signing Arsenal fans are hoping for at Emirates Stadium?
Arsenal may yet be offered hope in their attempts to sign a forward this transfer window, with the news that David Villa wants to leave Barcelona this month.
According to Spanish publication Sport, Villa has just held clear the air talks with Barca coach Tito Vilanova, and revealed his desire to leave as soon as possible.
This is due to the lack of playing time he has received this season, and because Villa feels he still has a high enough level to contribute a great deal to a major European club, he doesn’t want to sit on Barcelona’s bench any longer.
There is certainly no shortage of takers for Villa.
He has interest from a wide variety of clubs, including those in the Barclays Premier League, and Arsenal look the most likely candidates to sign the Spain international striker.
The combination of a similar style of play to Barcelona, a clear room for improvement up front, and fellow Spaniards in Mikel Arteta and Santi Cazorla all lead to the conclusion that Villa would be well-suited to the Gunners.
Vilanova is believed to be reluctant to let Villa leave Camp Nou – having Spain’s record goalscorer on your bench isn’t too bad an option – but further talks are expected in the next few days.
