United’s Scottish boss will unleash Rooney at Anfield…
Manchester United boss David Moyes believes his England forward Wayne Rooney is ready to star in his side’s crucial Premier League match against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, reports BBC Sport.
The striker’s proposed move to Chelsea this summer is off, with Jose Mourinho’s men settling for Cameroonian hitman Samuel Eto’o instead. They did have two bids for Rooney rejected earlier in the summer after Wayne Rooney was reportedly ‘angry and confused’ over comments made about him by Moyes, but the striker refused to hand in a transfer request.
Rooney played well against Chelsea in his first start of the season, and came off the bench in the Premier League opener away at Swansea to provide two assists.
As the controversy and speculation dies down, Moyes reckons Rooney will be back to his brilliant best.
“He’s looking in good condition and is mentally in good shape,” said United’s Scottish boss.
“We’ll do everything we possibly can to keep that going and need him to keep performing well. At the moment, he’s in good shape.”
United’s opponents on Sunday, Liverpool, are in good shape – having won both Premier League matches so far. With Kolo Toure likely to be out injured though, Moyes can be confident that an on form Rooney combining with the brilliant Robin Van Persie can secure the three points for United.
