The Dallas Mavericks are involved in a three-way battle for a playoff spot in the Western Conference as they prepare to face the Los Angeles Clippers.
Dallas (44-31) now start a four-game road trip on Thursday night, and with such small margin for error with just a handful of games remaining, they will be battling to stay in the hunt as they are locked level with both Phoenix and Memphis.
While they will close the season against those two rivals, they have games against three of worst teams in the West this season to come first in the form of the Lakers, Kings and Jazz, and as a result they will hope to be in a much stronger position prior to then.
In contrast, the Clippers have already secured the Pacific Division for a second straight season and are safely into the playoffs, coupled with the fact that Blake Griffin has returned from injury and things appear to be looking positive for coach Doc Rivers.
However, they will still be eager to finish the regular season on a high and ensure there isn’t any late drama with the third seed in the West, starting with a strong performance against the Mavs.
The Clippers have won all three meetings so far this season and will be looking sweep Dallas for the first time since 1993-94, but they are awaiting some injury news to see how much firepower they have available.
J.J. Redick is understood to have a 75% chance of playing after recovering from a bulging disc in his lower back, but the hosts will still be without the likes of Jamal Crawford and Danny Granger.
Dallas have no such worries but will need Dirk Nowitzki to continue his strong form after he scored 33 points in Tuesday’s loss as well as now averaging 26.3 points in his last four games against the Clippers.
