Real Madrid’s brilliant Portuguese flyer will one day return to Old Trafford…
Real Madrid attacker Cristiano Ronaldo wants to end his career at Manchester United, the club he moved to Spain from in 2009 for £80m, reports the Observer.
United have made feeble enquiries about the availability of their former Ballon D’or winner, but Madrid are adamant that the left-forward, who has bagged an astonishing 201 goals in 200 games during his stint in Spain, is not for sale.
In fact, the 29-year-old is expected to be awarded a new contract in the coming months, that reflects his status as one of the best and most marketable players in the world. The players affinity for United though means the Premier League champions believe that one day Ronaldo will push for a return to the Premier League, where he developed from raw talent into genuine world-beater.
Ronaldo has intimated in close circles that he wants to play for United again before he retires.
One thing that may help United’s pursuit is the imminent arrival of Tottenham winger Gareth Bale at the Bernabeu for a world-record £86m fee. With such an astronomical price tag on his head, the La Liga club would be keen for Bale’s talents to be maximised, and for the player to be regarded as the fulcrum of the side. Despite Ronaldo’s unquestionable ability, he could be criticised for being too selfish, and taking too many shots when a pass is a better option.
If it takes selling Ronaldo back to United to enhance Bale’s progression, Real Madrid might just move the player on to make sure their latest world-record investment has as bigger chance as possible to flourish.
