Miami’s ‘Big Three’ all could test free agency market next summer.
Miami Heat star Chris Bosh believes that a third title this year would help keep the current roster of players together beyond free agency.
The reigning NBA champions will be bidding for a third successive title this season, as well as a fourth straight appearance in the NBA Finals, something that was last achieved by the Boston Celtics from 1984-87.
However, the franchise’s management could face a difficult summer next year with Bosh, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade all set for free agency.
The trio all have early termination options that would allow them to pursue other ventures should they decide that is the best course of action.
With the Los Angeles Lakers tipped to make big moves next year after making cap space, they will be amongst a number of interested teams looking at the situation in Miami.
However, Bosh believes that all the talk will mean nothing if the Heat can clinch a third consecutive title which could persuade the players to stay together beyond next summer.
“With everybody being under contract and having no tomorrow, it’s kind of exciting because we know what we have to do for one and then, two, it’s like it helps you focus on what you need to do in that moment instead of next year or whenever,” he said according to the Miami Herald.
“If we take care of business, we know everything is going to be all good. So, we just have to take that mentality and that kind of erases all the doubt.”
While all the top names are against discussing their future plans at this early stage, it will undoubtedly become a more intense topic of discussion the closer they get to the summer.
However, Bosh is clearly under the impression that should another NBA championship arrive at South Beach this season, it will bring stability to the Heat with the big names all potentially signing on.
