It’s a battle between two fiery Eastern Conference rivals as the Chicago Bulls look to extend their current winning streak when they take on the Miami Heat on Sunday.
Despite being diagnosed with a broken nose after the win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday night, LeBron James remains a game-time decision for the hosts who will be hopeful he can feature.
While the 29-year-old insisted that he isn’t going to rush back if the pain fails to subside sufficiently, he will undoubtedly be itching to play in this game given that the Bulls continue to be a problem for the reigning champions, and it may require a protective mask for him to take to the court.
Chicago arrive on South Beach looking for a season-high sixth straight victory, and seemingly finding their rhythm on the offensive end to compliment their physical defense, coach Tom Thibodeau is leading them towards that third seed in the Eastern Conference.
Nevertheless, having won 10 of their last 12, the Heat (39-14) will feel confident about their chances of beating a team that they have eliminated in two of the last three post-seasons.
Bulls center Joakim Noah insisted that they are hoping James recovers in time to play, and envisages Sunday’s battle to be a good game as both teams are “locked in” and playing great basketball.
With teammate Taj Gibson describing Chicago’s defense as “phenomenal” currently, the Bulls will roll into Miami confident that they can claim a major win over the rivals, but it will be their biggest test thus far in what is becoming a season to remember given that they have lost Derrick Rose and Luol Deng to injury and trade respectively.
Thibodeau’s only injury concern is Jimmy Butler who will be a big loss if he is unable to recover in time from a rib injury, but that shouldn’t effect the nature of this game as two rivals go to war on the court in what will be a pulsating game from start to finish.
