Blues want Gunners target says De Laurentiis.
The scramble to sign Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain has taken another twist, after Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis claimed Chelsea are also chasing the Argentine.
Higuain has made no secret of his desire to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, with the powerful forward reportedly feeling unvalued by the La Liga giants.
It has been widely reported that Arsenal are chasing the 25-year-old but Serie A outfit Napoli have entered the chase following the £54m sale of Edinson Cavani to PSG.
And De Laurentiis says Napoli and Arsenal will now face competition from Chelsea, who are managed by Higuain’s former Real boss Jose Mourinho.
Napoli are also chasing former Tottenham target Leandro Damiao and De Laurentiis says signing both forwards remains possible.
“Higuain? Why quicker for him and forget Damiao? On the Argentinean there are also Chelsea and Arsenal,” the Italian told Tuttomercato.
“And then you have to take in to account the indications that [Napoli coach Rafa] Benitez wants to see Damiao as well.”
It remains to be seen if De Laurentiis’ information is accurate, however.
Chelsea saw a bid for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney rejected on Wednesday and Mourinho has claimed the England striker is the Blues only major transfer target this summer.
