Singapore billionaire businessmen Peter Lim wants to make Fernando Torres the marquee summer signing if he completes his proposed takeover of Valencia, reports the Mirror.
The Spanish striker has famously struggled since his £50m move from Liverpool back in 2011, and with Chelsea almost certain to sign a world-class forward when the transfer window re-opens, it could be that Torres’ Stamford Bridge career is nearing its end.
Torres turns 30 next month, and has only managed four Premier League goals all season. In his entire Chelsea career, he’s notched an equally miserable 19 in 100 matches.
Valencia have been in financial troubles for many years, but if Lim acquires the club, they could be in for an exciting summer in the transfer market. Torres has two years left on his contract come the end of the season, and Jose Mourinho will likely be more than happy for him to leave – especially with Romelu Lukaku set to return from a loan spell at Everton anyway.
