The Blues manager has been left red-faced after private comments were leaked.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is angry after comments from the 51-year-old about the team’s current strike force were leaked onto the Internet.
Mourinho was heard to be disparaging about the Blues’ attacking line, as well as the club’s plans to try and sign the likes of Radamel Falcao and Zlatan Ibrahimovic from Ligue 1.
“The problem with Chelsea is we lack a scorer. I have one [Eto’o] but he’s 32. Maybe 35, who knows?” the Portuguese coach was quoted by the Guardian.
“I don’t have Falcao but Falcao doesn’t have a team.
“Who wants to play in front of 3,000 supporters? If I was one day to go to Monaco it would be at the end [of my career].”
“He’s [Ibrahimovic] happy in Paris. I know because he’s my friend and we’re in touch. PSG with all its wealth would never open the door. That’s mission impossible.”
Mourinho has been left red-faced by the revelations, but is angry because the manager claims not to have known he was being filmed during the conversation at a sponsors event.
However, the west London club have also not denied that the quotes are real and it could leave the side’s current strikers – particularly Samuel Eto’o – somewhat demoralised.
This could be something of a problem as the Cameroon international, Demba Ba and Fernando Torres are Mourinho’s only options until the transfer market opens again at the end of the season.
With the team looking for success in both the Premier League and Champions League, comments like this are not helpful for unity at Stamford Bridge.
