The coach wants to build the team around Hazard.
There is one Chelsea player who is likely to be happy following manager Jose Mourinho’s leaked comments about the current squad at Stamford Bridge – Eden Hazard.
During a sponsors event the 51-year-old was secretly filmed whilst discussing the team, with the Blues’ strike force coming in for serious criticism.
However, when asked about whether Hazard would be sold Mourinho was firm in his answer of no, even if it was a swap deal involving Paris Saint-German’s £54m forward Edinson Cavani.
“No. Eden is our boy. This is the guy we want to have for ten years, and we want to build the team around Eden. He is a player who has this style of football and being that we want,” the Portuguese coach was quoted by L’Equipe.
The Belgium international has been in stunning form this term and has scored 14 goals and provided eight assists in 36 matches for the west Londoners in all competitions.
Hazard has adapted well to English football since a £32m switch from Lille in the summer of 2012, having been nominated for the PFA Player of the Year in that first season.
Mourinho has had to rely on the 23-year-old to score for the team on many occasions, with the Belgian having more goals this campaign than any of the club’s three strikers – Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres.
Whilst the boss is sure to enter the transfer market in the summer for new forwards, using Hazard as a makeweight in any deals is clearly not an option.
