The Blues have not given up on signing the forward.
After a good start to the season Chelsea are readying themselves to further improve the squad with another bid for Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney – this time £35m, reports the Metro.
The Blues had two offers for Rooney turned down during the summer, when it was revealed by former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson that the forward had handed in a transfer request.
However, since then new manager David Moyes – who gave the Englishman his professional debut when they were both at Everton – has since worked hard to make the 28-year-old feel part of the team again.
The tactic seems to have worked as despite the fact the Premier League champions have struggled somewhat this term, Rooney has been in brilliant form and has six goals and seven assists in all competitions in 2013/14.
This has also tipped onto the international stage, with the England international scoring in both of the Three Lions’ recent World Cup qualifiers against Montenegro and Poland, helping the nation to qualify for the tournament in Brazil next summer.
Yet Jose Mourinho has not yet given up on signing Rooney, as the west London club continue to struggle to find anyone to score goals up-front.
Despite Fernando Torres’ impressive display against Manchester City on Sunday, the Spaniard has been indifferent once again this term and Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o have also been shaky.
It’s likely that if Rooney was signed in January that Ba would be the striker to make way as the Senegal international is clearly not rated by Mourinho.
