Rooney is back to his creative best, but still wants to leave Premier League champions…
Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney still wants to leave the club and join Chelsea, reports the Sunday Times.
The 27-year-old England striker started yesterday’s 4-1 away win at Swansea from the bench, but came on and performed brilliantly. Rooney assisted goals for Robin Van Persie and Danny Wellbeck, and looked a menace whenever he got on the ball.
However, Rooney still wants to leave Old Trafford. The player is disconcerted by his new manager David Moyes’ comments back in July; which indicated he was only valuable to the club as a backup to Van Persie, and is increasingly adamant that he will join a new club before the end of the month.
The striker has made no public statements on his future, and the ominous silence continues to bug United fans.
The Stamford Bridge club are expected to test United with a £40m bid before the end of the month. Many have suggested that selling Rooney to Chelsea would hand the title over to the Londoners, but United have been insistent that the striker is not for sale.
If he does eventually stay at United, which is looking increasingly likely as the transfer window draws shut – Rooney will hope to spearhead United’s attack with Van Persie, rather than as a a foil for last season’s Premier League top scorer.
