Spain international Xabi Alonso could walk away from the Santiago Bernabeu for free next summer.
Chelsea target Xabi Alonso is no closer to signing a new deal with Real Madrid, according to Spanish daily Marca.
The 31-year-old’s current contract at the Santiago Bernabeu expires in June 2014 but the pass-master is yet to signal whether he will extend his stay in the Spanish capital, leaving senior figures at Real in the dark.
The situation has prompted Los Merengues to compile a list of possible replacements for the Spain international, who is currently sidelined with a groin problem after undergoing surgery last month.
Former Los Blancos head-coach Jose Mourinho, now back at Chelsea, is reportedly keen to be reunited with the former Liverpool midfielder at Stamford Bridge.
Alonso has claimed to have made his peace with Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard after the pair clashed several times when the Spaniard was at Anfield.
