The Blues hierarchy have been less than impressed with the performance of interim manager Rafa Benitez and are ready to look elsewhere in their search for someone to take up the hot-seat on a permanent basis following the sacking of Roberto Di Matteo earlier in the season.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich suffered a setback earlier this month when long-term target Pep Guardiola turned down the job in favour of taking up a position with German giants Bayern Munich.
It has been rumoured that the former Barcelona man turned down the job because of the reputation the Stamford Bridge club have developed for how they treat their managers.
No Chelsea manager has managed to successfully survive in charge of the club for two full season since Portuguese boss Jose Mourinho.
That will not deter Moyes however, who knows his rising star would not be dented should Chelsea decide to subsequently sack him. The fiery Scotsman has long been tipped as a potential successor at Old Trafford for Sir Alex Ferguson so it remains to be seen whether the former Preston man would be interested in taking up the reins of one of their closest rivals.
