Thibaut Courtois reckons he’s way too good to play second fiddle to Petr Cech…
Chelsea owned Thibaut Courtois claims he is one of the best keepers in the world, and will flatly refuse to sit on the bench behind Petr Cech at Stamford Bridge, reports the Evening Standard.
Courtois is spending yet another year on loan at Atletico Madrid, where he has undeniably shone and established himself as one of the world’s premier shot stoppers. He keeps the ultra-impressive Simon Mignolet out of the Belgium side, and has even been linked to Barcelona as an eventual replacement for Victor Valdes, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
“I want to play, I will not be sitting on the bench,” said the talented Belgian stopper.
“At Atletico I feel great and being here allows me to play in the Champions League. I’ve grown a lot at Atletico, especially last season when we won the European Super Cup and the Copa del Rey.
“I’ve made great progress, especially in terms of speed, reflexes and experience. I am in my best form and I feel like I am among the five best goalkeepers in the world.”
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho brought current Blues no.1 Petr Cech to the club way back in 2004, and the giant Czech international has played between the sticks at Stamford Bridge ever since.
Despite Courtois’ talent, it seems unlikely the Blues will want to ship Cech out of the club, and Courtois could well become available in the summer.
