The Brazilian thinks the best is about to begin.
After signing Willian from Anzhi Makhachkala for £30m right from under rivals Tottenham Hotspur’s nose, the winger failed to show why Chelsea had paid so much money.
Some average performances in both the League Cup and Champions League left many Blues fans wondering if Spurs had actually had a lucky escape not landing the 25-year-old.
Yet manager Jose Mourinho persisted – as you would after paying so much – and the Brazilian was given the forward’s first chance to impress in the Premier League on Sunday.
With little time left in the game, Willian helped create Eden Hazard’s strike to put the away side 1-2 up and then capped off a good display with an impressive finish late on.
It was the South American’s first goal for the attacker’s new club and the Brazil international has revealed that it is the start of things to come.
“I am very happy to have made my Premier League debut this way,” Willian told Globo Esporte.
“I did well off the bench, doing what Mourinho asked me to do. I managed to start the move that led to the second goal and then I scored the third goal.
“I am slowly recovering my best form, gaining match fitness.
“I will try to do my best whenever I have the opportunity to play. I intend to grow with each match.”
Willian is among a host of talented attacking midfielders at Mourinho’s disposal, with six currently available for the first team and Victor Moses also out on-loan with Liverpool.
Therefore the winger will have to keep up this good form or face being replaced by one of the eagerly anticipating suitors waiting on the sidelines.
