Hazard wants to be just like the Barcelona and Real Madrid superstars.
After making the 23-man shortlist Chelsea’s Eden Hazard wants to go even further and emulate Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo by winning the Ballon d’Or.
As expected the Real Madrid superstar was named the 2013 winner and collected the award for the second time in the forward’s career, whilst Barcelona’s Messi lifted the gong a record four successive times between 2009 and 2012.
Hazard has been in great form since a £32m transfer to the Blues in the summer of 2012 and wants to one day be recognised as the best player on the planet.
“I always said it, from when I was little, that it’s my dream to win the Ballon d’Or,” the 23-year-old was quoted by the London Evening Standard.
“Chelsea gave me the chance to be seen on the world stage, so if I play well I could be seen as a potential Ballon d’Or winner in the future.”
This season Hazard has been arguably the west London club’s best player and has 11 goals and eight assists in 28 appearances in all competitions.
The young Belgian has taken up the mantle once occupied by Juan Mata at Stamford Bridge and is now the focal point of creativity for Jose Mourinho’s men.
The manager is a big fan of Hazard and has backed up the claims from the attacking midfielder that the Belgium international can become a leading figure in the sport.
“Eden can become one of the best players in the world,” Mourinho told the London Evening Standard.
“Hopefully, the big talent can transform himself into the big player.”
