Hazard believes the defender needs to play for City to take anything from the game.
Ahead of the Premier League clash with Chelsea and Manchester City at the weekend Eden Hazard has said Vincent Kompany’s fitness is key to the result.
Hazard knows Kompany well having played with the centre-back in the Belgium national team for several years and the defender has had injury problems this season.
The City captain has managed just six appearances this term due to these issues and last played for the club in the win over Everton at the start of October.
With the 27-year-old’s huge influence for the Citizens – shown by the dominant performance against rivals Manchester United earlier in the campaign – Hazard thinks whether the Belgian features or not could determine the result on Sunday.
“Kompany is really important for City because when he plays they win and when he doesn’t play they lose, often,” the winger was quoted by Sky Sports.
“We know his quality and we’re lucky to have him in the Belgium team. I prefer to play with players like that than against them.”
Both teams have started the 2013/14 campaign fairly strongly and the west London club sit in second whilst their Manchester opponents are fourth.
Both are expected to be title challengers this term – especially with the apparent drop off of the Red Devils – and matches like this will be important to those ambitions.
Hazard started the season indifferently after coming back to the side following an injury, but two goals against Cardiff City last weekend showed glimpses of the form that earned the Belgian a place among last year’s PFA Player of the Year nominees.
